Animal Protection League does not perform any pre-op bloodwork. Pre-op bloodwork checks for anemia as well as checks the animal's organs such as the kidneys and liver. Since the liver processes the anesthetic agent, it is important that it is functioning properly. We do not perform surgeries on pets that are greater than 5 years of age. These pets need the pre-op bloodwork and a different anesthetic protocol that a private practice veterinarian can offer.

Surgery involves the use of anesthetics and drugs.  Injury or death may conceivably result from the surgery and accompanying procedures.

The Animal Protection League will not perform surgery on Great Danes over 8 months of age due to the breed's predisposition for genetic heart problems.

The Animal Protection League does not perform surgery on dogs weighing over 80 pounds.  Please see your private practice vet for these services.

If your pet has suffered a trauma, such as, kicked by horse, hit by care, etc., they could be a high risk surgery due to underlying conditions as a result of that trauma.  Please inform our staff at the time you schedule your appointment to discuss the potential risks.

As of September 2022, Animal Protection League has performed over 200,000 sterilizations.
